Fulton County Judge-Executive Jim Martin has chosen the county's new jailer.

Tommy Hodges with the Judge-Executive's office says Steven Williams has been chosen for the position. Williams currently serves as a detective for the Fulton Police Department. He will start on August 1.

Former jailer Ricky Parnell, who retired in September, pleaded guilty in April to federal honest services fraud and wire fraud charges for his role in a $3.3 million kickback scheme involving the Fulton County Detention Center expansion project.

Williams will serve out the remainder of the current term, and will be eligible to run in next year's election if he wishes to remain in the position.
