After supporters gathered the minimum number of petition signatures, a vote on whether to allow alcohol sales in Marshall County will be on a special ballot for the second time in recent years.

Interim Marshall County Judge-Executive Chyrill Miller signed an executive order Thursday to allow the vote, saying that a petition was filed May 21 with signatures of registered voters totalling at least 25 percent of the number of votes cast in the last general election.

Miller set Tuesday, July 28 as the date for the local option vote. The ballot will ask, "Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in Marshall County, Kentucky?"

A previous wet-dry vote was on the ballot in 2012, and failed. Kentucky Lake Convention and Visitor's Bureau was a proponent of voting yes, while a group opposing the change formed, calling itself "Say No Now." Both organizations appear to be gearing up for another battle through the summer.
