The massive, slow-moving 'superload' convoy carrying a large piece of industrial equipment that has been stopped in western Kentucky for several days has finally made its way into Tennessee.
The 195-foot truck and trailer had been parked near the Wallonia community in Trigg County for the last week.
Shortly after the crew started rolling on Monday, the load was halted due to a crash involving a support vehicle. After a delay to allow police to investigate the crash, the crew resumed travel with the super load around noon.
The truck and its caravan moved southward along KY 276 to U.S. 68, then to Cadiz where it took KY 139 and ultimately TN Highway 20 into Tennessee near Bumpus Mills.
Miller Transport & Rigging had been working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for several days to obtain permits for travel along mostly 2-lane highways that will continue now through west Tennessee into Mississippi.
The truck with 19-axle trailer is escorted by about a dozen support vehicles. It is hauling an almost 200-ton load from near Cincinnati, OH, to Aberdeen, Mississippi. Due to the 17 ft. – 6 inch height of the load, the truck has to move along mostly rural routes to avoid highway and interstate overpasses that normally have a 15 ft. – 6 inch clearance.
In this video posted on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Facebook page, the convoy was captured moving across the Kentucky-Tennessee state line on Monday afternoon.
