Marshall County residents approved the sale of alcohol in Tuesday's election, but it may be a few months before any sales can actually take place.

Randy Newcomb, executive director of the Marshall County Tourist Commission said it will "probably be a minimum of 60 days, because there's a lot of paperwork a lot of processing that it needs to go through.

"There are applications that need to be filled out for those wanting licenses....whether for package stores, for malt beverage licenses, for restaurants."

Newcomb says a recent study showed the current demand for alcohol in Marshall County would have a $3.9 million annual impact.

Marshall County voters chose by a slim 202-vote margin to allow alcohol sales for the first time since 1938.
