Stubborn Rivers Stay At Flood Stage Another Week

Another round of heavy rains in the surrounding region over the weekend will keep local rivers over their banks for several more days.

The Mississippi River is actually rising again today as far north as St. Louis. The gauge at Cape Girardeau was at 35 feet on Monday night. Flood stage is 32 feet. The river at Cape is forecast to rise to 36.5 feet by Friday before it slowly recedes, and eventually gets back under flood stage on Wednesday, May 31.

Ohio River levels are slowly falling. The river at Cairo on Monday night was at 43.4 feet. Flood stage is 40 feet. Levels are expected to return below flood stage by this Sunday morning.

At Paducah, the Ohio is already below flood stage, and was just falling under flood stage today at Brookport Dam.
