Highways and streets have reopened in Hickman after an underground gas leak and fire.

A gas leak was reported about 1:30 pm and Kentucky Highway 125 near Little General Convenience Store was closed as crews responded to the situation. Officials say the leak is from a natural gas line.

Several additional streets in the neighborhood were also closed, causing travel snags for local drivers. 

Emergency personnel were able to contain the leak about 4:30 pm and roads began to reopen. However, the store and its parking lot are still closed while crews continue to monitor the situation.

Due to the nature of the incident, additional highways and streets around the site have been blocked.

KY 1099, KY 94, KY 1463, KY 125, and KY 1465 are all closed at several locations around the City of Hickman. This is making travel difficult for motorists in the area near the scene.

Currently, KY 94 seems to be the best way to get through Hickman. Motorists are asked to not travel through Hickman if at all possible.

Estimated duration of this situation is 4 to 6 hours.



Original Story:

KY 125 is closed at the edge of Hickman due to a natural gas leak and fire.

The closure is near the Little General Convenience Store between KY 1192 and KY 1069 as a result of the underground gas leak that has caught fire. Witnesses reported seeing flames shooting several feet into the air at the site.

The estimated duration of the road closure is 4 hours or more.

KYTC personnel are making a detour on KY 125 between Hickman and Fulton.

Due to the nature of this incident, the rescue squad, fire department, Sheriff, and other agencies have blocked off additional highways and streets around the site.

 

KY 1099, KY 94, KY 1463, KY 125, and KY 1465 are all closed at various locations around the City of Hickman. This is making it difficult for motorists to navigate around the incident.

 

At this time, KY 94 appears to be the best way to negotiate through Hickman.

 

Motorists are advised to void traveling through Hickman if at all possible.

 

Estimated duration is 4 to 6 hours.
