The Benton Police Department is warning residents of another phone scam going around.

Officers say someone is calling residents claiming to be law enforcement. The most recent was a call from a "Lt. Ellison" from Kentucky State Police Post 1.

The caller wanted the victim to go to Walmart to buy gift cards. He said he would then provide further instructions once inside.

Officers say if you receive one of these types of calls, never give out any information over the phone. If you believe it's a scam, hang up. If they call back don't answer.

Police also say you can call the agency the scammers are claiming to be from and verify if an officer really needs to speak with you or not.
