Two people were injured, one seriously, in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday night in Lyon County.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, the accident took place about 8:30 pm on Kentucky Highway 373, just north of Eddyville. Deputies responded and found a pickup truck damaged with the driver inside and a passenger on the ground.

Deputies say the truck, driven by 16-year-old Michael Jones of Eddyville, was northbound when a deer entered the road. Jones reportedly braked and swerved to miss the deer, but the truck ran off the road, hit an embankment and ditch and overturned several times. Deputies say Jones was treated and released at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital, but the 15-year-old passenger, who was thrown from the vehicle, had serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.

Eddyville Fire Department, Lyon County EMS and Lyon County Emergency Management helped at the scene.
