With Sunday morning's temperature at Barkley Field falling to 30 degrees, the first freeze of the season for Paducah has come a few days earlier than average.

In comparing 80 years of weather data, Paducah's median date for its first freeze has been October 27th. That means that half of the freeze dates occurred before the 27th, and half occurred after that date.

The earliest first freeze for Paducah came on October 3rd, 1974; the latest held off until November 13th of the very next year 1975.

Cape Girardeau's average first freeze falls on October 21st; Evansville's date is October 29th.

The median date for Paducah's first hard freeze of 28 degrees or below falls on November 6th.
