Local donors are contributing towards Giving Tuesday in support of the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House.

According to the Murray-Calloway County Hospital, Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purpose of hashtag activism, refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The movement works to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the holiday season.

This year, multiple donors agreed to match donations, and several families throughout the area made donations which resulted in a total of $7,360 being raised on Giving Tuesday. The money will go towards the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House.

The following donations were made:

• Dave and Judy Eldridge - $1,600
• Tripp and Sharon Furches - $1,600
• Anonymous Donor - $10,000
• Anonymous Donor - $2,000
• Nancy and Don Travis - $500
• John and Heather McConnell - $500

“Tripp and I grew up in Murray and love our community. We feel it’s so important to support your local community both financially and through opportunities to serve. It’s important to set an example for the next generation on how to serve. And cancer has touched many in our family so that is certainly a cause that is important to us,” said Sharon Furches.

The campaign supports building a new cancer center, which will make an impact on patients and families in our region, who have been affected from cancer. The campaign also supports local cancer treatment options to continue to be provided in the area.

Neighbors, colleagues, family, and ourselves can receive new hope with cancer care that goes beyond high quality. The result will change cancer statistics and affect families in our region for years to come.

Once construction begins on the new Regional Cancer Center, the project is expected to take 18 months. The new facility will be located on the first floor of the North Tower of the hospital. The main entrance will be located on 8th Street, across from the current Ambulance building.
