WICKLIFFE, KY - A three-vehicle accident in Ballard County Saturday night left nine people injured. According to Kentucky State Police, the wreck happened at 8 pm on US 51, five miles north of Wickliffe.
Police said 42-year-old Rhonda Johnson of St. Louis, MO was traveling northbound on US 51 North with five juvenile passengers. According to witnesses, a car traveling southbound attempted to pass another vehicle and almost collided with Johnson's van before swerving back into its lane.
Johnson swerved towards the northbound shoulder to avoid colliding with the vehicle. She overcorrected into the southbound lane and lost control of her van. Johnson then struck the back end of a truck driven by 36-year-old Roy Keller of Murray, who was traveling southbound.
Keller's truck became out of control and crossed both lanes of traffic. He collided with the bridge on the northbound shoulder and came to rest. Johnson’s van continued traveling sideways in the southbound lane.
The passenger side of Johnson's van struck the front of a car driven by 27-year-old Jacob Metz of Cookville, TN, who was traveling southbound. Johnson's van then overturned and came to final rest on its roof. Metz's car came to final rest in the southbound lane.
Metz, his passenger, and all occupants in Johnson's vehicle were transported to Lourdes and Western Baptist Hospitals. Keller was treated and released at the scene.
