According to the NWS, an EF-1 tornado with maximum estimated winds of 100 mph damaged part of a marina at Moors Resort on Kentucky Lake in Marshall County. A 50-yard section of marina, one of three sections that extended into Kentucky Lake, was twisted and overturned by the tornado.
A boat that was docked in this part of the marina was lifted onto the overturned marina section. The entire marina structure was shifted several feet and pulled away from the shore, dislodging several spud poles that anchored the floating marina structure to the lake bottom.
Across the rest of Marshall County, scattered straight-line damage included broken large tree limbs and uprooted trees.
NWS officials also found preliminary EF-1 tornado damage across Carlisle, Ballard and McCracken counties. NWS officials say the track is from northwest of Bardwell to Lovelaceville and Lone Oak.
An EF-1 tornado has wind speeds between 86 to 110 miles per hour. Damage from an EF-1 tornado typically means surface damage to roofs, mobile homes pushed off the foundation and moving vehicles pushed off the road.
NWS damage survey teams spread out across western Kentucky on Monday to perform storm damage surveys. Two teams began near the Mississippi River and traveled eastward.
One team started on the Carlisle-Ballard county line and proceeded through McCracken and Livingston counties just short of the Crittenden County line. The second team started in northern Hickman County, and studied damage in Carlisle, Graves, Marshall and Lyon counties.
Additional surveys may be scheduled later in the week.
