Missing Woman Killed in Crash; Child Survives

A missing Trigg County woman has been found dead in her wrecked car, but her 7-month old great-grandson survived the crash, apparently unscathed.

Authorities had asked for the public's help in finding 63-year-old Waynette Cain of Cadiz after she and the child failed to return from a trip to a store in Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon.

Cain was later found dead in her car which had run off the road and hit a tree on KY 139 and then continued into a creek bed, dropping about 8 to 9 feet.  Despite wearing a seatbelt, Cain was partially ejected from the car and was killed. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner.

Her 7-month old great-grandson, however, was found in the rear seat, buckled in a child safety seat. He was alert and responsive when found. Rescuers took him to the Trigg County Emergency Room where he was evaluated and then released to family members.
