A military appeals court has upheld a Fort Campbell soldier's conviction on two charges of rape by force and his sentence demoting him and granting a dishonorable discharge from the service.

The U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals concluded on Thursday that the charges at the court martial of Spc. Michael G. Zent were not unreasonably multiplied. Zent pleaded guilty in 2013 to twice grabbing a woman by the throat at Fort Campbell and raping her in 2012.

A military judge sentenced Zent to 10 years of confinement, a reduction in rank to private, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and a dishonorable discharge.

The military appeals court looked at whether the judge properly looked at the two offenses as a single crime for the purposes of sentencing.
