A Graves County woman was arrested on drug and other charges Tuesday night after she allegedly fled the scene of an accident.

The Mayfield Police Department says 44-year-old Elizabeth Cartwright, of Mayfield, was involved in a motor vehicle collision near Wyatt Drive and Paris Road. Police say Cartwright fled from the scene, and while officers were looking for her, they learned of a separate collision on West James Street, near North 8th Street.

The vehicle description matched Cartwright's vehicle, and it too was reportedly trying to leave the area. Officers were able to intercept the vehicle.

According to police, when Cartwright tried to get out of her vehicle, it collided with a patrol vehicle that was conducting the traffic stop. Officers say Cartwright was reportedly driving under the influence, and had caused substantial damage to her vehicle. Cartwright was also allegedly in possession of marijuana and several different prescription/controlled medications, along with open alcohol containers.

Cartwright was arrested and transported to the Graves County Jail. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, operating a motor vehicle under the influence 2nd offense (aggravated), wanton endangerment (police officer), criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a legend drug, prescription controlled substance not in the proper container, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle and possession of controlled substance.
