Mayfield Man Jailed on Theft, Burglary Charges

A Mayfield man was jailed Friday on theft and burglary charges.

According to the Graves County Sheriff's Office, Jason Jones of Hopewell Road near Mayfield told deputies someone had broken into his home on Wednesday and stolen approximately $5 in change. He said the person came back on Thursday and stole some tools from his garage valued at over $500.

Jones said he had video of the suspect and recognized him to be 46-year-old Timothy Roper. Jones gave the video to the sheriff's office.

A warrant was obtained for Roper for burglary, criminal trespassing and theft by unlawful taking over $500. Deputies went to Roper’s home in Mayfield and placed him under arrest on the warrant.

While at Roper's home, deputies found a large amount of merchandise that had recently been stolen from Walmart in Mayfield. Roper was additionally charged with receiving stolen property under $500. He was taken to the Graves County Jail.
