The Mayfield Police Department said officers responded to Central Avenue after being told that 28-year-old Benjamin Riley was at a home with a gun. They said Riley fled on foot and allegedly discarded a bag containing a 9mm handgun.
Riley was apprehended and placed under arrest. Officers said the recovered weapon had recently been reported stolen to the Graves County Sheriff's Office.
Riley was charged with fleeing or evading police on foot, tampering with physical evidence, receiving stolen property (firearm), carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Riley also had two existing warrants for bail jumping and probation violation.
He was lodged in the Graves County Jail.
