According to a release from the Kentucky State Police, at approximately 2:30 pm on July 31, 2015 a Kentucky State Police Trooper observed a 2003 Buick Rendezvous traveling at a high rate of speed while north bound on US 45. Upon seeing the Trooper, the vehicle's driver turned abruptly in traffic across both south bound lanes, nearly colliding with a south bound vehicle, before entering West Vaughn Road.
The driver of the Buick again accelerated to a high rate of speed before coming airborne prior to the intersection of West Vaughn Road and Chapman Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, exiting the north side of the roadway before colliding with a tree.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Graves County Coroner Phillip McClain. The driver was identified as Joe L. Moore (35) of Mayfield. At the time of the collision Moore's Kentucky operator's license was suspended for multiple reasons. The preliminary factors surrounding this fatal collision include excessive speed and not under proper control. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of this collision.
The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Graves County Sheriff's Office, Graves County Coroner's Office, Graves County Fire & Rescue, Mayfield-Graves County EMS, Mayfield Fire Department and Viola Fire Department. The investigation is continuing by an Advanced Collision Reconstruction Team from Post 1.
