According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, someone has been using Benton First Baptist Church's telephone number and using “spoof” technology in order to make it appear that calls are coming from that number.
Deputies say the scammers identify themselves in such a way to make it appear that they are in some way with the church, then they try to get you to buy medical equipment. The sheriff's office warns residents to never give out any personal information over the phone.
Anyone who has received one of these such calls is asked to contact the sheriff's office.
