According to the West Marshall Fire Department, the fatal fire took place Sunday morning on Tom Lane Road. Firefighters said when they arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed.
WMFD units, along with the Palma Briensburg Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters located the body of 70-year-old Cecil Garland in his bed near the back of the home. He was pronounced dead by the Marshall County Coroner's Office at 7 am.
Authorities said no one else was inside the home when the fire started. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
