A Mayfield man was arrested Thursday on drug and other charges after a short foot pursuit.

According to the Graves County Sheriff's Office, 29-year-old Joseph L. Brown was observed riding a motorcycle on North 14th Street in Mayfield. A detective initiated a traffic stop on James Street, at which time Brown fled on foot, leaving the motorcycle in the street.

Deputies pursued Brown for two blocks before catching him at 11th and James Street. Deputies said Brown was seen throwing items out of his pockets as he was running from police. Officers recovered digital scales, 5.5 grams of methamphetamine, a baggie of amphetamine pills and a small bag of marijuana.

Brown was lodged in the Graves County Jail on a long list of charges including trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking controlled substance, possession of marijuana, fleeing and evading, tampering with physical evidence and operating on a suspended operator's license.
