By West Kentucky Star Staff
MAYFIELD, KY - A man was arrested on a burglary charge in Mayfield Monday.

The Mayfield Police Department says officers were dispatched to the Mayfield-Graves County Animal Shelter for an audible alarm with the point of activation being the side door. When police got there, they found that door to be unlocked.

As officers were searching the building, they located Kirksey Johnson, who stated he was an employee, and was there to feed the cats. As police escorted Johnson out of the business, the key holder of the business told them Johnson was not supposed to be there.

Johnson was placed under arrest. According to police, Johnson was found in possession of several dog leashes belonging to the animal shelter, keys to the outside door, and two keys that went to two different animal shelter vans. All property was returned to the business.

Johnson was charged with 3rd degree burglary and lodged at the Graves County Jail.
