Kentucky transportation officials say engineers are planning to place the main arch for a new bridge at Land Between the Lakes this week if weather conditions are right.

The bridge will replace the Eggner's Ferry bridge that spans the Kentucky Lake-Tennessee River navigation channel and connects Aurora, Kentucky, to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

A statement from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says engineers plan to put the 550-foot main span into place on Tuesday.

Placing the 110-foot-tall arch between the main piers is expected to take up to 12 hours and will require near-perfect weather conditions.

The current bridge will be closed to motorists for up to 24 hours. Marine traffic on the navigation channel also will be halted for up to 48 hours.
