Murray State University student Daren Tindle has recently been selected by the Legislative Research Commission (LRC) to take part in the LRC Internship Program for the upcoming 2018 Legislative Budget Session of the Kentucky General Assembly. Tindle is currently a Murray State junior majoring in political science in the department of political science and sociology within the University’s College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The 2018 program will run from January through April 2018. It will include a two-day orientation in November of this year, prior to the convening of the 2018 General Assembly. Only 20 students are selected from among the commonwealth’s nine public higher education institutions to take part in the program.

Students selected for the program will spend four months working directly with LRC staff and members of the General Assembly. According to the LRC website, interns will be trained and treated like all employees of the LRC and are placed in areas that best utilize their personal interests and/or qualifications. These areas include the legislative committee staff, the director’s office, constituent services and the public information office of the LRC.

Murray State University President Bob Davies explained that in addition to working for the LRC, Tindle would also be called upon from time to time to assist him and the University’s Government Relations Director Jordan Smith when meeting with elected officials in Frankfort.

President Davies stated, “I am very excited that Daren will be interning in the State Legislature and working alongside our state’s policymakers in the upcoming session. We are very proud of the work Daren has already exhibited within the Murray State Honors Program, and I am confident he will do a fantastic job throughout his internship. Opportunities like these are vital for our students’ future advancement in terms of gaining professional work experience while still in their undergraduate careers. I look forward to working with Daren in the coming months and know he will be continue to reflect well on Murray State University.”

Tindle is a former 2016 high school graduate of Hancock County High School in Lewisport, Kentucky. He is currently an active member within the Murray State Honors College, participating in all Honors College curricular and extracurricular activities, and is a vital academic student within the department of political science and sociology.
