A Mayfield man was arrested Thursday after he was allegedly caught huffing in a store bathroom.

According to the Mayfield Police Department, officers responded to Walmart on Paris Road on a report of a man huffing air. When police arrived, they heard the sound of an aerosol can being released and Thomas Hobbs was seen holding a can of compressed air.

Police said the can was cold from usage and Hobbs was under the influence of the inhalant. According to police, Hobbs was incoherent and lethargic and unresponsive to their commands and questions.

Walmart staff told police that Hobbs had stolen the can of compressed air and he had been banned from the store due to prior thefts.

Hobbs was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where he was seen by medical staff, and then released back into the custody of the Mayfield Police Department. Hobbs was placed under arrest for volatile substance abuse, public intoxication (excluding alcohol) and 3rd degree burglary.

He was lodged in the Graves County Jail.
