Several western Kentucky counties have been awarded grants for 911 call center upgrades.

On Tuesday, Governor Andy Beshear joined the Kentucky 911 Services Board Chair and Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) Executive Director Josiah Keats to announce 53 grants totaling $2,881,038.55. The grants were awarded across the Commonwealth to improve and enhance 911 call center operations.

Out of the 53 grants, 8 totaling $415,492.36 were awarded to counties in western Kentucky.

Marshall County 911 will be receiving three grants totaling $133,383.63. This will go towards the deployment of a master clock for time synchronization across center services, a new Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, and a new Emergency Medical Dispatching system.

The Livingston County Fiscal Court is receiving two grants totaling $110,699.40 for a Communications Logging Recorder to replace an obsolete recording system, and to replace an obsolete CAD system.

Trigg County 911 is receiving $66,926.52 for upgrades and replacement of radio communications equipment and systems.

Carlisle County 911 is receiving $20,967.81 for upgrades to existing Computer Aided Dispatching system software and support equipment.

The Fulton County Fiscal Court is receiving $83,515.00 for a project to deploy a new Computer Aided Dispatching system, and enhanced mapping capabilities.

During the 2020 grant cycle, 61 applications were received, which represents $3.6 million in requests. The KOHS performed an extensive review process, evaluating and prioritizing grant funding. As part of the process, 911 Services Board staff ensured all documentation had been properly submitted, and a team of 911 and grant experts analyzed and scored each grant. Following this, a second team of experts performed a technical review, ensuring that each request met statutory and regulatory guidelines. The projects deemed most important were submitted to the full 911 Services Board, which unanimously approved the grant awards at their June 30 meeting.
