A woman was arrested Saturday for being a fugitive from justice and on drug charges.

The Graves County Sheriff's Department reports that deputies were sent to a safe house in Mayfield. Someone had reported a woman was under the influence and others in the house were taking care of her three children, ranging in age from 3 months to 4 years old.

Outside the home, deputies spoke to 25-year-old Candyce P. Champion of Grand Rivers, and determined that Champion had taken prescription medication not prescribed to her. Further investigation led to discovery of similar medication on her, and that she was wanted on an arrest warrant from Metropolis.

Champion was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, having a prescription not in the proper container, possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also served with the warrant from Metropolis.

The Livingston County Department of Social Services came to the house to care for the children until they could be turned over to a family member.
