A work zone on the Purchase Parkway is going to have new restrictions starting Monday.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a contractor will put a lane and width restriction in place at the Exit 25 interchange with U.S. Highway 45 near Mayfield, while they work to widen and extend the ramps in that area. Traffic will be one-lane and restricted to a maximum width of 11 feet. Any trucks with loads wider than that must use I-24 or Highway 45 instead of the Parkway. The restriction is expected to be in place until about June 1.
The 30-mile work zone stretches from the Highway 45 bypass interchange just south of Mayfield to Exit 52 near Calvert City. Drivers should remember the 60-mile-per-hour speed limit with double fines in this zone, and should watch for crews working along the right-of-way, or close to traffic.
The contractor hopes to take down the work zone during peak holiday travel periods.
This work is part of a larger project that upgrades the Pennyrile and Purchase Parkways to Interstate standards, allowing Interstate 69 to extend southward through the state. It includes upgrades to ramps, drainage areas, guardrails, decking, and railing, along with some paving work.
