Drivers along Interstate 24 in southwestern Kentucky will have to slow down a bit.

Shoulder and lane restrictions are in place along the road in Christian County from Exit 86 to mile marker 93 at the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, a distance of about 7 miles.

There is also a 55 mile per hour work zone speed limit.

Transportation officials say the restrictions are due to installation work on median cable barriers and corrective work along the rehabilitation project completed last summer.

Officials plan to put the lane restrictions up at night to help minimize traffic disruptions. The corrective work is expected to take about a week to complete while the cable barrier installation is expected to take about 45 working days.
