Kentucky State Police say they received a call about a young boy in a field with no one around on Sunday, just before 5:00 pm. The caller was driving on Old Dublin Road, when they noticed the boy alone outside.
A neighbor showed troopers the house where the child lives. Police reportedly found a door standing open. Troopers entered the home to conduct a welfare check after no one would come to the door, and found 29-year-old Nathan Taylor of Mayfield asleep.
Police said Taylor was hard to wake, but once he awoke, he said the child was his. Taylor gave consent for a search of the home, where they reportedly found small amounts of methamphetamine, marijuana and various drug paraphernalia.
Taylor was arrested and charged with
wanton endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of
marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was lodged in
the Graves County Jail, and the child was placed with a relative by
the Cabinet for Community Based Services.
