The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet issued a statement Wednesday saying the I-24 work zone in western Kentucky has been taken down for the Thanksgiving Holiday. It has been in place since July, moving through Trigg, Lyon and Caldwell Counties.

The work zone will go back up next week, and will be in place for a couple of weeks, while the repairs are completed.

Original Release (July 23):
A long-term work zone is going up in Trigg County on I-24, and will move through three other counties as concrete pavement is repaired over a 27-mile area.

Drivers will see lane restrictions for about a five-mile stretch of the Interstate during the project, and that work zone will migrate over the next four months.

A contractor will begin near the 68-mile marker on the westbound side of I-24, and work toward the exit 65 interchange near Cadiz. At that point crews will shift to the eastbound lanes and work toward the 72-mile marker in Christian County. Once that work area is repaired, crews will reverse direction and work on the westbound lanes through Christian, Trigg, Caldwell, and Lyon Counties, where work will end near the 45-mile marker at Princeton.

Work zones through this project will only be about 5 miles long, to help traffic flow.

The contractor will be using a foam injection system to level settled concrete, and the project is expected to continue into November, or as long as weather allows this fall. If they are forced to stop, work would resume in the spring.
