After asking for community help in what could be a massive harvest of Asian Carp in February, the Lyon County Judge Executive has now retracted his request.

Wade White had requested volunteers who could help provide security, gas, and other supplies through a 10-12 day work period, while 25 commercial fishermen are removing thousands of carp from Kentucky Lake. The fishermen will implement the, "modified unified method," using several boats and lots of nets.

On Tuesday, White said he was no longer asking for help after hearing from officials with the Cabinet for Tourism, Arts and Heritage in Frankfort, which oversees the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. White said they voiced, "concerns over my request to gain community help," for the agency, but did not elaborate.

White thanked everyone who had expressed a desire to help, saying, "I very much appreciate your overwhelming generosity through your donations of fuel, food, boats and time."

He said anyone who still wants to help should contact the Cabinet for Tourism, Arts and Heritage instead of his office.

Original Story:

The Lyon County Judge Executive is asking the local community to help with donations and volunteers for an Asian carp harvest effort in February.

In February, Lyon County will welcome 25 commercial fishermen on the Kentucky Lake side of LBL to perform a “modified unified method” in a couple of bays to drag hundreds of thousand of carp from the lake. There will be several boats, lots of nets and commercial fishermen involved. They expect this to be a 10-to-12 day work period. No official date has been provided.

The following items are things the KY Fish and Wildlife does not have and could use the help from local communities and businesses.

* A person with a boat; with a cabin on it to guard the bay through the night. Monetary payment maybe possible.

*Lunch, drinks, Snacks for mid-day at the site in LBL for approximately 25 people. Coffee & hot chocolate available for mornings.

*Muck boots and rain gear for a few volunteers along with thick rubber gloves with lining.

*Gas cans with gas to gas up boats on a daily basis. Looking for approx 20 gallons per day.

Anyone interested in donating to this event should contact the Lyon County Judge Executive at 270-388-7311.
