Troopers at Kentucky State Police Post 1 are asking for donations in their 'Cram the Cruiser' holiday food drive, which begins Wednesday and continues through December 10.

Each state police post in the state is participating. A cruiser will be parked in front of Post 1 at 8366 State Route 45 North in Hickory, and anyone can drop off non-perishable food items in the cruiser or the lobby of the post, which is located at 8366 US Highway 45 North in Hickory, KY

State Police will take the items to local food pantries in the post 1 area so they can be distributed to families in the area.

In addition to collecting food at Post 1, KSP will be set up from 10:00 am - 3 pm on specific dates at these locations:
• November 20th  at the Wal-Mart store in Murray
• November 21st at the Food Giant in Eddyville
• November 23rd at the Food Giant in Murray
• November 24th at the Kroger store in Murray
• November  29th  at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Benton
• November 30th  at the  Hancock’s Neighborhood Market in Cadiz

Suggested donations include non-expired canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, chili or spaghetti sauce, brownie and cake mixes, coffee, water, powdered milk and juices.

As an added incentive, Scents n More Boutique in Benton and Murray will be putting names of anyone who give at least two non-perishable items into a drawing for two $40.00 gift cards.

“Hunger is an urban, suburban and rural problem,” says KSP spokesperson Sgt. Josh Lawson. “There is no area of the state where it does not exist. Through this program, we have an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our neighbors and participate in the spirit of the season.”

KSP is also teaming up with Kroger and Pepsi for a special collection event on Dec. 1 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Kroger store at 808 North 12th St. in Murray.
