The National Weather Service in Paducah continues to issue a heat advisory in effect through 7 p.m. Monday.

Afternoon heat index values will once again top out from 100 to 105 today.

Small chances of thunderstorms are forecast for all or a portion of the area Monday and Tuesday. Better thunderstorm coverage is expected Wednesday through Friday, with small chances lingering into next weekend. A few strong storms cannot be ruled out, but locally heavy rainfall and lightning should be the primary concerns.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and anyone taking part in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.

Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Make sure outdoor pets have plenty of shade and fresh water.
