A local ministry to residents of Graves County rest homes will celebrate 3 years of service on May 5th.

Rev. Van R. Russell, founder of SASH Ministry ("Saved And Serving Him"), explained how the ministry came about and what their goals are. He said that many times those in rest homes are forgotten about, or they can't get out and be a part of a group like a Sunday school class. Rev. Russell said that a similar ministry helped his mother when she was confined to a rest home.

"Our vision is to serve those that can't get out and go to church", he said. "I truly believe this idea was given to me by the Lord, after my retirement from being a full-time pastor. We want to be a blessing to those we serve, but in most cases, we are the ones that are blest most by doing this." Rev. Russell added.

The group brings a devotion, presents music and singing, shares testmonies, offers prayers, and visits with the residents of Mills Health and Rehabilitation Center, Green Acres Health Care, Heritage Manor Health Care Center, and Generations Adult Day Services, all in Mayfield, one time each month. The ministry team members along with Rev. Russell are: Barbara Russell, W.A. Erwin, Jim Heavener, Flo Heavener, Sondra Rice, Mary Lee Herring, and McKenzi Cowart.

Rev. Russell says he hopes to be able to expand the ministry to other rest homes, including those in the Benton area. If anyone would like to be a part of the ministry team, he can be reached at 270-519-6366.
