Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said deputies received information that 48-year-old Patrick Clapp was in the Water Valley area. Redmon said Clapp had several outstanding Graves County warrants and had fled from law enforcement on previous occasions.
Deputies saw Clapp's car traveling north on US 45 South. Clapp began traveling at a high rate of speed and a brief vehicle pursuit began. During the pursuit, police said Clapp's car left the roadway and collided with the foundation of the Pleasant Valley Mission Church.
Clapp got out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area behind the church. The sheriff's office K-9 was deployed and was able to locate Clapp hiding in a thicket.
Clapp was placed under arrest and charged with fleeing and evading police, criminal mischief, operating on a suspended operator's license, possession of a controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in the proper container, DUI 4th offense and two counts of wanton endangerment.
Clapp was also served with seven warrants for his arrest out of Graves District Court. He was booked into the Graves County Jail.
