The Graves County Public Library has planned many activities, programs and meetings for May. The movie this month is The Lego Movie 2.
 
In conjunction with the Mayfield Animal Shelter, the Graves County Public Library will host a program called Paws to Read. It will be every first Thursday of each month at 4 pm and will allow children to read aloud to a therapy dog or cat for 15 minutes. Patient, nonjudgmental pets help reluctant readers gain confidence and comfort with reading. Parents will need to fill out and sign a waiver before their child can participate. The Graves County Public library has two special programs throughout the school year. Their Lego Program is the first Monday of every month at 5 pm and daughter date night will be the first Tuesday of each month at 5 pm. For Lego night children and come and create anything out of their imagination and during daughter date night a parent can come with his/her child and make a craft to take home together. The Graves County Public Library will host Kentucky Chautauqua speaker Eddie Price as Roscoe Tarleton Goose on Thursday May 2nd at 5:30 pm.  Kentucky Chautauqua is an exclusive presentation of the Kentucky Humanities Council and they bring historical characters to life with professional actors.  You will delight in seeing Kentucky Athletic Hall of Famer and American jockey Roscoe Goose once more through Eddie Price.  You won’t want to miss this special program.  If you have any questions contact the library at 270-247-2911.
 
The Graves County public library’s teen advisory board will have our anime night on Friday May 3rd from 4-7 pm. We will watch anime, play games and have pizza. Prizes will be given out and if you want you can come dressed as your favorite character.  Make sure you don’t miss this event. The Graves County Public Library will host Teen Art Studio on Friday, May 10th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Hang out and create your own masterpiece at the library. We will have paint, colored pencils, coloring pages, poster board, washi tape, & more. Just come by and make something to take home.  If you have any questions, contact the library at 270-247-2911.
 
The Graves County Public Library will host family movie night on Tuesday May 14th at 5pm.  Watch as the citizens of Bricksburg face a dangerous new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space start to wreck everything in their path.  Free Drinks and popcorn will be served.  Children under the age of 10 should be with an adult.  We will also have games to play along with the chance to win a prize.  If you have any questions please call us at 270-247-2911.
 
The Graves County Public Library will host local author Tammy Turner for a book signing on Thursday, May 16th at 5:30 pm. Dr. Tammy L. Turner is a native of Graves County, KY.  She holds a doctoral degree in music history from the University of Mississippi.  Turner will be discussing her new book Dick Waterman: A Life in Blues which is about his life as an American writer, promoter and photographer who has been influential in the development and recording of the blues. The Graves County Public Library will have a Flower desk kit craft on Saturday, May 18th at 10:30 am. You will be able to make your very own desk tidy kit to take home and all supplies will be provided. This craft will be first come first serve. The Graves County Public Library will have Bingo night on Tuesday, May 20th at 5 pm. All supplies will be provided and it is free for all ages. Prizes will be available for winners. Western Kentucky author Regina Merrick will be at the Graves County Public Library on Saturday, May 25th from 10 am until noon for a book signing.  Merrick grew up in Symsonia and now lives and works in Marion Kentucky. She will be discussing her new book Carolina Grace. This book is a Christian fiction romance set on the beaches of South Carolina. You won’t want to miss this special signing. The American Red Cross will be at the Graves County Public Library on Friday, May 31st from 11 am until 4 pm for a community blood drive.
