Girl on Bicycle Struck by Vehicle in Mayfield

A nine-year-old girl was seriously injured Monday night when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a pickup truck in Mayfield.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the girl riding on 13th Street failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle that was traveling west on Housman Street.

Police said due to the time of day and direction of travel, the vehicle's driver did not see the girl entering his path due to sun glare. Troopers said the girl was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe injuries.

The girl was transported to Baptist Health Paducah and later airlifted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, where she remains in critical condition.
