Fulton City High School will begin random bag searches for students beginning next Monday.
Buildings & Grounds and School Safety administrator Kent Green said in a Facebook post that in light of recent events in schools and trends in the United States, the bag searches will be conducted to enhance safety programs and procedures.
The school says a district safety team was created, and changes were discussed with students, teachers and staff members. On March 13, the FIS School Board approved new policies in both the district’s search and seizure policy and the emergency response guidelines.
Green said students should be aware that metal detectors will be used, and bags and purses are open to being searched by school staff when they enter the high school at the beginning of the day.
