The remnants of tropical storm Barry brought rain, but also breezy temperatures almost 10 degrees cooler than normal for July. Now, a dangerous heat wave is on the way.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, in effect from Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Heat indices from around 105 to 110 degrees are expected each afternoon.

Several days of heat indices in this range can have a cumulative impact on some individuals, especially children, the elderly, and those who engage in prolonged outdoor work or other activities.

Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Never leave pets, children, or the elderly unattended in parked vehicles.

The extended period of high heat and humidity can worsen the effects of heat stress.

We are not alone in the suffering this week. This week's heat wave will affect 200 million Americans in 38 states.
