A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans another overnight closure on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge Tuesday night.

The bridge will be closed starting at 9:00 pm and is expected to re- open to traffic by 5:00 am Wednesday.

Keith Todd of KYTC said construction of piers on the new bridge requires a concrete pump truck to be parked on the existing bridge. Due to the truck's size, the bridge has to be closed.

The contractor will have message boards along US 68 in Marshall and Trigg Counties and on KY 80 in Calloway County to alert the public to this planned overnight closure. The contractor will also place flaggers and barricades at each end of the bridge to alert traffic to the closure. There will be a marked detour between Cadiz and Aurora via Interstate 24 and the Purchase Parkway.

As construction on pier footings for the new bridge continues, the contractor anticipates a night closure of the Eggners Ferry Bridge about once a week for the next few months when weather allows. The contractor anticipates providing at least 48 hour advance notice on future overnight closures.
