Commercial air service has returned to the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport.

News outlets report that the inaugural flight of the new air service took off Tuesday from Bowling Green to Atlanta with VIPs and media. Regular flights start Tuesday.

It was announced in May that commercial air service was returning to the airport after 44 years. Contour Airlines is offering two round-trip flights to Atlanta Monday through Saturday with one Sunday round-trip flight. It is also offering Thursday and Saturday flights to Destin, Florida, with return flights Thursday and Sunday.

Officials at a cake-cutting ceremony Monday said the effort to bring commercial flight to Bowling Green included $1.8 million in local, state and federal incentives to Contour for one year.
