Each student received a quilt or blanket from the group Project Linus. The organization, based out of Belton, MO, provides handmade blankets and/or quilts to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.
The comfort blankets are made by volunteers from all over the country called “blanketeers” and then donated to Project Linus. The blankets are then distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social services agencies or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug.
Volunteers came to the school on Monday and let the students choose a blanket that made them happy.
“It really touched my heart,” said MCHS student Ellie English. “The kindness and selflessness that these people gave us through their time making these blankets is very special.”
The organization chose to give the blankets to Marshall County students after hearing about the mass shooting at the school last month. A 15-year-old teen is accused of opening fire in the commons area of the school on the morning of Jan. 23, killing 15-year-old Bailey Holt and 15-year-old Preston Cope, and injuring several others.
