A child was killed and another was injured Friday morning in a crash on Interstate 69 near Mayfield.
The Graves County Sheriff's Department says deputies responded at 6:31 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash near the 25 mile marker, where they arrived to find a vehicle facing the wrong way in the northbound lanes. The investigation reportedly revealed 30-year-old Savannah Doom of Wingo was driving south when she lost control in a curve due to the wet roadway. Her vehicle then entered the median, hit a guardrail and the center concrete divider then overturned.
Deputies said an 11-year-old child who was riding in the back seat was later pronounced dead at Jackson Purchase Medical Center. A 7-year-old child who was also riding in the back was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment of serious injuries, and was listed in stable condition. Doom was not injured.
Everyone in the vehicle were reportedly wearing seat belts. I-69 was closed for more than two hours while the investigation was completed and the scene was cleared.
