If you're dreaming of a white Christmas... dream on.  At least, that's what historical data for Paducah suggests.

According to the National Weather Service records in Paducah, only eight Christmas Days in the past 77 years were classified as "white," that is, having at least an inch of snow on the ground.

Now, a couple of recent white Christmases have been memorable. They include 2010 with three inches of snow in place, and 2004 when a whopping nine inches blanketed western Kentucky. (That was also the coldest Christmas morning on record at eight below zero.)

Any precipitation on Christmas in our region is historically more likely to be rain; 29% of our holidays have been wet, especially 1987 when 3.87 inches fell.

The majority of high temperatures (65%) stay in the 30s and 40s, but a 69-degree Christmas is a fond memory from 1982.

What about this year?  So far, Paducah's extended forecast calls for a chance of rain and snow flurries on Christmas Eve, but a sunny Christmas Day in the 40s.
