A two-vehicle crash Monday in Graves County left one person dead and another facing serious charges.

According to Kentucky State Police, the collision happened around 12:40 pm near the 3200 block of KY 1820 in Melber. State police said 95-year-old Helen M. Adams of Melber was operating a riding lawn mower traveling east on KY 1820. Twenty-four-year-old William R. Crumbaugh of Cunningham was driving a pickup truck east on KY 1820.

According to police, Crumbaugh ran into the rear of the lawn mower, causing Adams to be ejected. Adams was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN where she later died.

Crumbaugh was taken into custody prior to Adams passing away and charged with assault, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs second offense aggravating circumstance, driving on a DUI suspended license 3rd aggravating circumstances, possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence. He was also served with an outstanding warrant out of McCracken County for failure to appear.

Crumbaugh was booked into the Graves County Jail.

Because Adams died, police say they will be seeking to amend the assault charge to murder.
