Gov. Matt Bevin on Wednesday appointed Tony Kitchen, of Paducah, as Circuit Judge for the 2nd Judicial Circuit, Division 2.

The position opened after former Circuit Judge Craig Clymer retired on June 25. Joe Christopher "Chris" McNeill and Charles David Walter were also being considered for the job.

Kitchen has served as District Judge since 2007, after being elected in 2006. He has been re-elected twice since then. He served as an assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for eight years, where he was a founding member of the McCracken County Drug Court Team.

"I want to thank Gov. Bevin for selecting me to serve as Circuit Judge," Kitchen said. "It is an honor to serve the people of McCracken County, and I look forward to the opportunity to do so in my new role."

Kitchen will serve until the position is filled after the November 2018 midterm election. He announced his candidacy for the position in June.
