The Benton Police Department has been awarded a $280,000 Homeland Security grant, which it says it will use to purchase an armored vehicle.

The department says their application for the grant has been approved, and the money will go toward the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat G3 armored vehicle.

"The vehicle will have many uses and applications. We look forward to explaining more about it in the near future as it will take a few months to be built from the factory," The department said in a Facebook post.

As part of the same grant program, several other western Kentucky agencies will also receive awards. Click the link below to find out more about the program.
