A Benton man is facing multiple charges related to the beating of a well-known man in the city.

Benton Police arrested 29-year-old John Brumbalough Tuesday morning, not long after 76-year-old Donnie Duke was attacked in his home.

Marshall County Daily reports that Duke is affectionately known as "Bird Dog" to local residents, and was in his home when Brumbalough was allowed inside, and he attempted to rob the home. Duke was injured while he tried to keep Brumbalough from taking things from his home. He also received a laceration in his neck, but is expected to recover, after he was taken to Marshall County Hospital for treatment.

Brumbalough faces charges of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and tampering with physical evidence. He was taken to Marshall County Jail.

Community members are offering support to "Bird Dog" by bringing cards to the Marshall County Sheriff's office, who will then deliver them to Duke.
