Two semi fires on I-24 in Christian County; one driver seriously injured

A tractor-trailer driver was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when two semis collided on I-24 in Christian County, just hours after an earlier semi fire shut down both eastbound lanes.

According to Christian County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 77-mile marker around 1:10 pm after one tractor-trailer struck the rear of another semi that was stopped in traffic. The crash trapped one of the drivers inside their cab.

Emergency crews worked to free the driver, who was extricated and airlifted to a Nashville hospital with severe injuries.

That crash came less than two hours after a truck fire forced the closure of both eastbound lanes of the interstate at the 86-mile marker near the Hopkinsville/Oak Grove exit. That crash at the start of a construction zone created its own significant traffic delays.
